This work is a replica of an original 18th century drawing by Georg Dionysius Ehret to illustrate Carl Linnaeus's

sexual system of plant classification. The illustration was first published in Linnaeus' Genera Plantarum in 1737.

Linnaeus is considered the father of modern taxonomy. During the Enlightenment, the 'Linnaeus system' was

polemic precisely because he proposes classification through sex.
