In the digital age, where technology permeates every aspect of daily life, data has become an invaluable resource, often likened to the “new oil.” As the line between "user" and "product" blurs in the digital realm, the transformation of personal information into a tool for profit raises crucial questions. Are we entering an era of "data colonialism, " where data becomes a means of control and domination, or is this simply technological progress that we must learn to navigate mindfully?
The Synthetic project aims to explore these complexities through artworks created from the artist’s personal data, collected from social media platforms over time. This self-collected data, reflecting online interactions and digital footprints, is gathered, analyzed, refined, and transformed into moving images and laser-engraved works. By using personal data as raw material, the project challenges viewers to consider the implications of data ownership, privacy, and the power structures embedded within digital networks.
The work Synthetic was supported by the 23rd Silpa Bhirasri Creativity Grants.
