Isan is a region prescribed as a marginalized of both economic and political. There are a lot of people from Isan who
migrated from their locality to various places both in the country and out of the country to find some jobs.
This workpiece is focused to diaspora culture by which I have made an observation of the daily life of Isan Thai laborers
who migrated from their rural to city. And I chose to present their special identity of Moh-Lam-Sing (a modernized genre
of folk Moh-Lam performance) where often came by a caravan to present their performance in various places in the country
including Bangkok. I would like to study how Isan Thai laborers negotiate their identity to public under such Bangkok-centered
Thai cultural hegemony in the globalizing world. This workpiece is interpreted in liminality of the concept of Homi K. Bhabha.
In the 'Liminal Zone', I have tried to present how temporal space as Moh-Lam-Sing parallel to liminal spaces that well-matched
to negotiate for its power and culture, including temporary exchange of roles of people which is open to multiple possibilities.
The part of this workpiece is inspired from the writings of Ajarn Pattana Kitiarsa, an anthropologist's Isan bloodline who has
passed away.
